Don Melchor 2014, the highest score in its history in Wine Spectator

Through its weekly newsletter Insider, which contains advance reviews of the most exciting wines its editors have tasted in recent weeks, the US magazine Wine Spectator saluted the 2014 Don Melchor with an outstanding 96 points—the highest score to date for a Chilean wine in the publication. The 2003 and 2005 vintages of this wine also received the same score in the past.

The magazine also added it to its exclusive list of Hot Wines—exceptional wines with high scores—making it the only Chilean wine in this distinguished category. Additionally in the Advance of the May issue the wine was included on the Collectible Wines list, comprised solely of wines with extraordinary value and potential over time.

Critic Kim Marcus said of the wine: “A ripe, rich and full-bodied red, with powerful avors of dark cherry, plum pudding and currant that feature a lush creaminess. Firm and savory midpalate, with a long and rened nish that oers mineral and cocoa butter accents, supported by dusty tannins.”

This exceptional score is added to the long list of Don Melchor’s historic achievements in Wine Spectator, where it has made eight appearances among the Top 100 Wines of the World (three times among the top 10), conrming its position among the greatest examples of Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, and indeed, the world.

“This new acknowledgment lls us with pride and shows that we are achieving what we are continuously striving for with Don Melchor—the expression of lively fruit, concentration, and elegant tannins.” Enrique Tirado, Don Melchor Winemaker
