Leading North American critic James Suckling has awarded Don Melchor 2015, the 29th vintage of the iconic Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, an outstanding score of 98 points.
Suckling visited the country in mid-February and tasted close to 1,000 wines in the fieldwork for his new Chile report, which was recently published on his website www.jamessuckling.com.
Grown in the celebrated vineyards of Puente Alto, since its very beginnings Don Melchor has received a consistent stream of plaudits, making it the country’s most highly prized Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the world’s leading examples of the variety.
“The aromas of lead pencil, blackcurrant and tar are impressive with just a hint of fresh herb. Sweet tobacco. Iodine. Full body, very tight and polished with ultra-fine tannins and a refined, textured finish”.
