Master Of Wine of china meets with the winemakers of Concha y Toro
On July 21st, Fongyee Walker, the first Master of Wine of China, meet with winemakers, Marcelo Papa and Marcio Ramírez, to taste the new wines of Marques de Casa Concha, as well as Carmín de Peumo and Terrunyo.
During her visit to Chile and Argentina, the esteemed Master of Wine and Chinese opinion leader, Fongyee Walker, met with winemakers from Concha y Toro in Pirque to taste some of the company’s newest wine innovations.
At this time, Fongyee had the opportunity to try alongside winemaker Marcelo Papa the three components of Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon (Tocornal, Mariscal and Pirque) and also the final blend. “It is an interesting exercise to taste the three components and then the final product. You can also taste the difference between the different harvests. I’ve always heard people say it is hard to taste the differences between one harvest and another of Chilean wines, but it is very clear when you taste these wines that come from different years”, says Fongyee.
The Master of Wine also tried the 2012, 2013 and 2014 harvests of the iconic wine, Don Melchor. About the latter she noted: “It is an elegant wine that the wine consumers in China will really enjoy. It is fresh and very delicate”.
At lunch, Fongyee met with Cristián López, Corporate Manager of Exports for the Asian Zone, and they had an interesting conversation about the Asian market and its main challenges. Additionally, Marcio Ramírez, Head Winemaker at the Cachapoal Winery, presented the Sauvignon Blanc and Carmenere of the Terrunyo line and the iconic wine, Carmín de Peumo.
Fongyee, who is a regular judge in the most important wine competitions around the world, writes for some of the most renowned wine publications and is cofounder of Dragon Phoenix Fine Wine Consulting, an established wine consultant in Beijing which also offers training courses.
