Leading British Master of Wine Tim Atkin has awarded Don Melchor 2015, the latest release of the iconic Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, an outstanding score of 96 points. This is the 29th successive vintage of Don Melchor.
Atkin visited Chile from December 3 to 22, as fieldwork for his second report on the country, which will be launched in March at the Prowein trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. His visit took in some 40 producers from all of the country’s wine districts, where he tasted a total of 1,054 wines.
On December 14 he met with master winemaker Enrique Tirado in Pirque, to sample the 2015 vintage of Don Melchor.
Grown in the celebrated Puente Alto vineyard, since its very beginnings Don Melchor has received a consistent stream of plaudits, making it the country’s best- renowned Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the world’s leading examples of the variety.
